google desktop ...
big brother is watching
while you sleep

quote
Google Desktop is desktop search software made by Google for Mac OS X, Linux, and Microsoft Windows. The program allows text searches of a user's e-mails, computer files, music, photos.

File indexing
After initially installing Google Desktop, the software completes an indexing of all the files in the computer. After the initial indexing is completed, the software continues to index files as needed. Users can start searching for files immediately after installing the program. After performing searches, results can also be returned in an Internet browser on the Google Desktop Home Page much like the results for Google Web searches.

Security
In February 2007, Yair Amit, of Watchfire, found a series of vulnerabilities in Google Desktop that could allow a malicious individual to achieve not only remote, persistent access to sensitive data, but in some cases full system control as well.
The significant impact and the ease of exploitation forced Google to change some of Google Desktop's logic in Google Desktop version 5.

We have a lot of hpye about
young "rebel" Kazuhiro Kokubo Kazuhiro,
the snowboarder.

quote
Halfpipe competitor Kazuhiro Kokubo was banned from attending a ceremony Wednesday to welcome Japan to the athletes Olympic village for being shabbily dressed at Narita airport in Japan before departing for Vancouver.

‘‘I know I made a mistake. I won’t let it affect the competition,’’ said Kokubo, who was spotted at the airport with a loosened tie and his shirt hanging out of the back of his trousers.

He also said he is unconcerned by the quality of opposition he will be up against in the men’s halfpipe in Vancouver and insists the Winter Olympics are nothing special.

‘‘I don’t feel any different. For me the Olympics is just another snowboarding event. It’s no big deal,’’ Kokubo said.

He took the haiku name of SHIKI 子規 when he was editor of the haiku magazine HOTOTOGISU, because of tuberculosis, he would spit blood. The inside of the mouth of the cuckoo is so red that it looks like blood when the bird is singing. He started using this name when the tuberculosis hit him.

The word SHIKI can also mean
"The four seasons 四季" in Japanese.

For a while, he used the name

Dassai is a name of the Otter Festival, also an ancient name of part of the prefecture Yamaguchi. Fishotters catch fish and place them on the riverside, almost as if they wanted to show them as offerings. This custom has been the subject of many old poems.

Masaoka saw himself as one who scattered his books around on the floor of his small room, just like the otter spreads out the fish he caught. His room was always cluttered and it was hard to walk around in it.
He kept notes and collected many words in small "encyclopedias" for himself as reference to improve his vocabulary and thus his poetry. Even when forced to lie down almost all the time, he had books scattered all around his pillow.

He even called his home
Hermitage of the Otter 獺祭魚庵 Dassaigyo An
and he was the" scatterer of books"

Kikuo san (he gave his former name, Kikuzo 木久蔵, to his son) is a regular member in my favorite program, he wears a yellow kimono and plays the "stupid one" (baka). He is now 70 years old and still going strong.

Shōten (笑点)
a Japanese TV comedy program, continuously broadcast on Sunday evenings on Nippon TV, Channel 4, since 15 May 1966. It is the second-longest running TV show in Japan. (almost like Mito Komon).

The show features a group of six Japanese rakugo comedians wearing kimono of different striking colors, sitting in a row, where they compete to make the best jokes on three themes suggested by the host.
The person judged to be the most funny, gains more and more zabuton (Japanese cushions), until he may be sitting on a stack five, six, or more. Comedians whose jokes are judged to be not funny, or whose responses are not quick enough, may have one or more zabuton removed and end up sitting on the floor. The zabuton used are supposedly extra-heavy ones weighing four kg (9 pounds), so even a stack of ten or more will not topple. When one participant has 10 zabuton, he gets a prize (and usually material for another TV show ... )

The show is also famous for its happy theme music written by Nakamura Hachidai. This music has been continuously broadcast since 1969. The titles are written in edomoji, but were originally written to show an animated smiling face.

Tingatinga painting style - Tanzania

Tingatinga -
a world of colors
exploding

Once there was a man called Edward S. Tingatinga.
He was born in the Namochelia village in Tunduru district in the South Tanzania.
During the 1960s he established an art form that became associated with Tanzania. Today, "Tingatinga" is the Tanzanian term for this form of art, known most intimately in Tanzania, Kenya, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Japan, Switzerland etc.
Boiled down to its core, Tingatinga art can be defined as painting on masonite using bicycle paint.
...
But Tingatinga art lives on. Masonite boards painted with bicycle paint can still be found in well-stocked "curio shops", shopping centers and tourist shops in eastern and southern Africa, as well as in solidarity shops located throughout Western Europe. Export of Tingatinga paintings from Tanzania to Kenya's capital, Nairobi, and other tourist centers, seems to be lively.

I saw this featured in on TV. The way a painter mixes only six colors to first brush a background and then, the simple strokes of animals, peoples and patterns, without any sketching, just like that
... whish whish ... in no time the painting is finished!

We have large flocks of crows these days, coming to feed on the yamataro-catarpillars which appear in thousands to feed on a special autumn weed.
The crows are leaving their "output" on the road and on my roof and everywhere ...

... the same food chain every year
... the same excitement evey year
... the same old haiku every year ...

.................................................................................

quote
a murder of crows

-This more poetic term for a flock of crows can be traced back at least to the 15th century, when it was recorded as a murther of crowes. Murther is a variant of Middle English murthre 'murder,' though the th sound had begun to be replaced with a d around 1300 C.E. There are several theories as to how this particular term came about, but all of them have to do with the supposed behavior of crows.

For instance, crows are scavengers and therefore often seen feeding on rotting bodies of various sorts. Survivors of wars have described how the battlefields were covered in black as crows (and ravens) came down to eat the dead. Another theory hearkens back to old folklore which told of groups of crows essentially holding court over members of their flock that had committed offenses. If they decide against the "defendant" crow, then the rest of the flock swoops down on it and kills it.

There are legends outside of the Germanic culture that relate to crows being judges over people as well, and how their appearance is an omen of death.
